The July board meeting of the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation was overjoyed as the executive director, Mary Hesdorffer, stated that multiple mesothelioma clinical trials are showing more promising results than ever before.
Hesdorffer stated that several of the clinical trials are showing increased survival rates and higher response rates as well. Several of these clinical trials are using novel techniques in radiation or immunotherapy. In one such trial, a 69% durable response was found, indicating a strong clinical trial.
In addition to providing information about mesothelioma, Hesdorffer offers free consultations to those suffering from mesothelioma. The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation offers these consultations in order to help patients find access to clinical trials. The consultation will involve the following:
- Questions about your age
- Questions about your medical history
- Determining how progressive your mesothelioma has become
- Your insurance coverage
- How willing you are to try a clinical trial
If they find that you are a good candidate for a clinical trial, the foundation can help get you started in one. They also offer a list of mesothelioma clinical trials in a brochure or on their website.
Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that is caused by asbestos exposure and attacks the linings of your lungs, heart, and abdomen. It was widely used in commercial practices and it has been found that multiple people that suffer from mesothelioma could have avoided it if their employers would have protected them.
